PG Wodehouse and a little town vocabulary!

Back-water……. A place or area that is rarely visited, often used slightly negatively.
Bottleneck………An area or traffic route that narrows causing a slowing of traffic (traffic jam).
Cul-de-sac……..A road that is surrounded by houses and stops with a turning space at the end. No through route possible.
